Is Belly Fat Surgery Necessary?

Belly Fat SurgeryWhen you speak to your physician about weight loss, you may want to ask, in your case is belly fat surgery necessary? Bariatric surgery has been on the uptake in recent years in the United States, even though many insurance companies have opted not to cover the procedures, to keep costs down.

There are two major types of bariatric surgery that your health care professional may recommend for you. The first are called restrictive procedures, and they include vertical band gastroplasty and lap-bands. These surgeries help you to lower your intake of food by making a little gastric pouch that makes you feel full even when your stomach is not. These procedures can help you eliminate 35-40% of the excess weight you carry.

Malabsorption procedures are also called biliopancreatic diversion. This type of surgery changes the flow of your digestive system. This results in food being digested poorly, and not completely absorbed. This is especially true for fat and carbohydrates.

RNY gastric bypass actually uses parts of both methods, as it creates a pouch and diverts the flow of digestion. Patients can achieve 75-80% loss of their excess weight after RNY surgery.

But you can also use four basic steps to lose belly weight without invasive surgery. These involve changing the way you eat, and what you eat, and adding exercises to your daily routine.

The first step is drinking a lot of water. You should drink six to eight glasses a day. Water is helpful in flushing toxins from your system, and it takes nutrients to the cells that need them. It also gives you a more moist environment in your throat, nose and ears.

The second step in losing belly fat without surgery is to use strength training to help build your muscle. You can do this type of exercising in your home, with smaller weights and resistance bands. These are easily purchased and not expensive. If you are burning the fat, you are also feeding the muscle.

The third step in losing belly weight at home is to do aerobic exercises. You can dance, play tennis, run, do water aerobics, ride a bike, swim or walk to achieve a more healthy lifestyle. These exercises help in elevating your heart rate, which helps to burn off more body fat.

Lastly, a nutritious diet is an important part of seeking to get rid of body weight more quickly. Some foods you eat can help to eliminate fat. Eat smaller portions, and eat more often, so that your body can burn the calories off before they can turn to fat. You need to consume proteins, carbs and fats in proper amounts, at the proper times of day. If you eat five or six healthy small meals daily, your body can use those calories, instead of storing them as fat. Be sure to eat lots of fruits and vegetables.

Bariatric surgery is an option in eliminating belly fat, but it is not the only option. Speak to your health care professional about what is right for you.
